When it comes to maintaining financial fitness, your credit report is one of the best tools you can use. Best of all? It’s completely free!
By checking in on your credit report every year, you can easily:
- Make a plan for accounts that may need some work
- Address or dispute any specific issues with accounts or personal information
- Ensure you’re on the right path toward having (and maintaining) great credit
Don’t Be Nervous; We’ll Walk You Through It!
Everyone’s credit history is different. That’s why we’re happy to sit down and review your credit report with you, one-on-one.
As we review your report, you can ask us about improving your credit score, cleaning up your credit history, getting out of debt, or any other questions that come to mind. We can even help connect you with a friendly credit counselor, if needed.
Request a Free Credit Report
To request your free credit report, visit AnnualCreditReport.com.
(We don’t recommend having us, as a financial institution, pull your credit report; it will count as a “hard inquiry,” the same way it does when you apply for a credit card or loan. If you request the report yourself, it won’t count as a hard inquiry.)
Important note: Your annual credit report will not include your credit score.
Review Your Information
Once you’ve received your credit report, you’ll see a list of all current and past debts, including loans and credit cards, for up to the past 10 years.
(Curious what a credit report looks like? Click here to see a sample!)
As you read through, you’ll want to check and ensure all the following information is correct:
- Name
- Birth Date
- Contact Information (Address, Phone Number)
- Social Security Number
- Credit Cards
- Loans
If you notice a loan or line of credit that looks unfamiliar, or there’s personal information that needs changed, click here to learn about filing a dispute.
Tips for Improving Your Credit
- If you have old or inactive credit card accounts, keep an eye on them to ensure they’re not being used by an identity thief
- Dispute any suspected errors you notice on your credit report
- Pay all of your bills on time
- Keep your credit card balances under their maximum limit
- Each month, make sure you pay more than the minimum amount on your credit cards
Remember: Credit improvement takes time! If you see an ad promising an “instant fix,” don’t believe it. Instead, set up a time to review your credit report with us, and we can come up with a plan together.
